Translation
✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ came to Madinah and found the Jews fasting the day of Ashura. He said, 'What is this?' They said, 'This is a great day on which God saved Musa and drowned the people of Pharaoh.' He said: So he fasted it out of gratitude. Then the Prophet ﷺ said: 'I am closer to Musa and more entitled to fast it than you.' So he fasted it and commanded it be fasted.
