✧ Breaking a voluntary fast and fasting it if one did not intend it at night

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ،
أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى عَلِيَّ بْنَ أَبِي طَالِبٍ، فَقَالَ: أَصْبَحْتُ، وَلَا أُرِيدُ الصِّيَامَ، فَقَالَ: " أَنْتَ بِالْخِيَارِ بَيْنَكَ، وَبَيْنَ نِصْفِ النَّهَارِ، فَإِنِ انْتَصَفَ النَّهَارُ فَلَيْسَ لَكَ أَنْ تُفْطِرَ
Translation
✧ A man came to 'Ali b. Abi Talib and said: 'I entered the morning not intending to fast.' He said: 'You have the choice up to midday. Once midday has passed, you may not break the fast.'
