أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أُخْبِرْتُ عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ التَّيْمِيِّ،
أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَقَالَ: رَأَيْتُ هِلَالَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ، فَقَالَ: هَلْ رَآهُ مَعَكَ آخَرُ ؟ " قَالَ: لَا، قَالَ: " فَكَيْفَ صَنَعْتَ ؟ "، قَالَ: صُمْتُ بِصِيَامِ النَّاسِ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " يَا لَكَ فَقِهًا !
Translation
✧ A man came to Umar b. al-Khattab and said, "I saw the crescent of the month of Ramadan." He said, "Did anyone else see it with you?" He said, "No." He said, "What did you do?" He said, "I fasted with the fasting of the people." Umar said, "What a good jurist you are!"
