عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ
أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ أَرْسَلَ إِلَى عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْفَضْلِ قَالَ: وَلَقَدْ قَالَ لِي رَجُلٌ - وَحَدَّثْتُهُ بِهَذَا - بَلْ إِلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي قَدْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أَسْتَعْمِلَكَ عَلَى سِعَايَةِ كَذَا وَكَذَا فَقَالَ: إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ: إِنَّ الصَّدَقَةَ لَا تَحِلُّ لِبَنِي هَاشِمٍ، وَبَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ قَالَ: فَمِنْ أَيْنَ عَطَاؤُكَ، وَرِزْقُكَ ؟ " فَلَمْ أَرْجِعْ إِلَيْهِ شَيْئًا "، فَأَتَيْتُ إِلَى ابْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ، فَقَالَ لِي: مَا قَالَ لَكَ ؟ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ بِخَبَرِهِ، وَبَقَوْلِهِ: " فَمِنْ أَيْنَ عَطَاؤُكَ، وَرِزْقُكَ ؟ " قَالَ: فَهَلَّا قُلْتَ: " مَا كَانَ الْعَطَاءُ وَالرِّزْقُ إِلَّا فِي الْمُسْلِمِينَ حَيْثُ كُنْتَ وَأَصْحَابُكَ، وَالصَّدَقَةُ لِأَهْلِهَا
Translation
✧ ʿUmar b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz sent to ʿAbd Allāh b. al-Faḍl—he said: A man said to me, when I narrated this, 'Rather to ʿAlī b. al-Ḥusayn'—saying: 'I want to appoint you over the collection of such-and-such charity.' He replied: 'The Prophet ﷺ said: Charity is not lawful for the Banū Hāshim or the Banū ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib.' He said: 'Then from where is your stipend and provision?' He said: 'I returned nothing to him.' Then I went to Ibn al-Musayyib, and he said to me: 'What did he say to you?' So I told him his news and his statement, 'Then from where is your stipend and provision?' He said: 'Why did you not say: The stipend and provision are only from the Muslims, wherever you and your companions are, while charity belongs to its rightful recipients.'
