✧ The obligation of charity upon the passing of a year

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أُخْبِرْتُ، عَنْ عِرَاكِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:
طَلَبْنَا عِلْمَ الصَّدَقَةِ فَلَمْ أَرَ أَحَدًا أَعْلَمَ بِهَا مِنْ نَاسٍ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا، كَانَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ يُصْدِقُونَهُمْ مِنْ جُهَيْنَةَ، وَغِفَارَ وَغَيْرِهِمْ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُمُ: الرَّجُلُ يَبْتَاعُ الْمَاشِيَةَ، ثُمَّ يَأْتِيهِ الْمُصَدِّقُ مِنَ الْغَدِ قَالُوا: " يُصَدِّقُهَا عِنْدَ مَنْ وَجَدَهَا، أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي بَاعَهَا قَبْلَ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ الْمُصَدِّقُ، فَجَاءَهُ الْغَدَ ؟ " فَقَالَ: " أَتُصَدِّقُ الَّذِي بَاعَهَا ؟ " قُلْتُ: لَا، فَهُوَ كَذَلِكَ ".
Translation
✧ We sought knowledge of charity, and I did not see anyone more knowledgeable about it than some people from its people. The Companions of the Prophet ﷺ used to give them charity from Juhaynah, Ghifār, and others. He said: I said to them: A man buys livestock, then the collector comes to him the next day. They said: "He pays charity on it wherever he finds it. Do you not see that the one who sold it before the collector came, and then he came the next day?" He said: "Would you take charity from the one who sold it?" I said: No. "So it is like that."
