Translation

✧ The first drop that falls from the blood of a martyr forgives him by it all his previous sins. Then Allah sends to him two angels with sweet basil from Paradise and a fine cloth. At the edges of the sky there are angels saying: “Glory be to Allah; today a good fragrance and a good breeze has come from the earth.” He does not pass by any door except that it is opened for him, nor by any angel except that he prays over him and escorts him until he is brought before the Most Merciful. He prostrates to Him before the angels, and the angels prostrate after him. Then he is commanded to the martyrs, and he finds them in green meadows and garments of silk, near a bull and a fish that are given a lick each day unlike the lick they were given yesterday. The fish remains in the rivers of Paradise, and when evening comes the bull gores it with its horn and slaughters it for them, and they eat from its flesh and find in its flesh the taste of every fragrance from the rivers of Paradise. The bull remains grazing in Paradise, and when morning comes the fish comes upon it and gores it with its tail and slaughters it for them, and they eat from its flesh and find in its flesh the taste of every fruit from the fruits of Paradise. They look at their dwellings morning and evening, calling upon Allah that the Hour may be established. When a believer dies, Allah sends to him two angels with sweet basil from Paradise and a piece of cloth from Paradise in which his soul is taken. It is said: “Come out, O good soul, to rest and sweet basil, and your Lord is not angry with you.” So it comes out like the best fragrance anyone has ever smelled with his nose. At the edges of the sky there are angels saying: “Glory be to Allah; today a good fragrance and a noble breeze has come from the earth.” It does not pass by any door except that it is opened for it, nor by any angel except that he prays over it and escorts it until it is brought before the Most Merciful. The angels prostrate before it and it prostrates after them. Then Mikha’il is summoned and it is said: “Take this soul and place it with the souls of the believers until I ask you about them on the Day of Resurrection.” He is commanded to his grave, and it is widened for him seventy cubits in length and seventy in width, and sweet basil is scattered for him in it, and he is covered with silk. If he had anything of the Quran with him, he is clothed with its light, and if he did not have anything, a light like the sun is made for him. His likeness is like that of a bride whom no one awakens except the dearest of her family to her. When a disbeliever dies, Allah sends to him two angels with a piece of coarse cloth, stinkier than every stench and rougher than every rough thing. It is said: “Come out, O evil soul, and evil is what you have sent ahead for yourself.” So it comes out like the foulest odor anyone has ever smelled with his nose. Then he is commanded to his grave, and it is constricted for him until his ribs interlace. Then snakes are sent upon him like the necks of Bactrian camels that eat his flesh. Mute, deaf, and blind angels are appointed for him who do not hear his voice nor see him to have mercy on him, and they do not tire when they strike. They call upon Allah to make that continue for him until he reaches the Fire.
