✧ Patience, weeping, and wailing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أُمِّهِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ زَوْجِهَا أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ:
مَا مِنْ أَحَدٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ يُصَابُ مُصِيبَةً فَيَقُولُ: ﴿إِنَّا لِلهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ ﴾، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَحْتَسِبُ مُصِيبَتِي عِنْدَكَ، اللَّهُمَّ أَبْدِلْنِي بِهَا خَيْرًا مِنْهَا " فَجَعَلْتُ أَقُولُ فِي نَفْسِي مَنْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فَجَاءَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَخَطَبَنِي فَتَزَوَّجْتُهُ
Translation
✧ “There is no Muslim who is struck by a calamity and says: ‘Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we return. O Allah, I seek reward for my calamity with You; O Allah, replace it for me with something better than it,’ except that Allah will replace it for him with something better.” She said: I kept saying to myself, “Who is better than Abu Salamah?” Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and proposed to me, and I married him.
