✧ Patience, weeping, and wailing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، عَنْ قَيْسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا قُتِلَ زَيْدُ بْنُ حَارِثَةَ أَبْطَأَ أُسَامَةُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَلَمْ يَأْتِهِ ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ، فَقَامَ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَدَمَعَتْ عَيْنَاهُ، فَبَكَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمَّا نَزَفَتْ عَبْرَتُهُ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " لِمَ أَبْطَأْتَ عَنَّا، ثُمَّ جِئْتَ تُحْزِنُنَا ؟ " قَالَ: فَلَمَّا كَانَ الْغَدُ جَاءَهُ، فَلَمَّا رَآهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ مُقْبِلًا قَالَ: إِنِّي لَلَاقٍ مِنْكَ الْيَوْمَ مَا لَقِيتُ مِنْكَ أَمْسِ فَلَمَّا دَنَا دَمَعَتْ عَيْنُهُ فَبَكَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ
Translation
✧ When Zayd b. Harithah was killed, Usamah stayed away from the Prophet ﷺ and did not come to him. Then he came to him after that, and stood before the Prophet ﷺ, and his eyes shed tears. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wept, and when his tears had flowed, the Prophet ﷺ said: “Why did you stay away from us, and then come to grieve us?” He said: The next day he came to him, and when the Prophet ﷺ saw him approaching, he said: “Today I will meet from you what I met from you yesterday.” When he drew near, his eyes shed tears, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wept.
