✧ Patience, weeping, and wailing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ أَبِي زِيَادٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى قَالَ:
دَخَلْنَا عَلَى الْأَشْعَرِيِّ فَبَكَتْ عَلَيْهِ أُمُّ وَلَدِهِ فَنَهَيْنَاهَا وَقُلْنَا: أَعَلَى مِثْلِ أَبِي مُوسَى تَبْكِينَ ؟ فَقَالَ: " دَعُوهَا فَلْتُهْرِقْ مِنْ دَمْعِهَا سَجْلًا أَوْ سَجْلَيْنِ، وَلَكِنِّي أُشْهِدُكُمْ أَنِّي بَرِيءٌ مِمَّنْ حَلَقَ، أَوْ سَلَقَ، أَوْ خَرَقَ
Translation
✧ We entered upon al-Ash'ari and the mother of his child wept over him. We forbade her and said: "Would you weep over the like of Abu Musa?" He said: "Leave her to pour out a bucket or two of her tears. But I call you to witness that I am innocent of anyone who shaves, wails loudly, or tears clothes."
