✧ Patience, weeping, and wailing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ قَالَ:
لَمَّا مَاتَ خَالِدُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ اجْتَمَعَ فِي بَيْتِ مَيْمُونَةَ نِسَاءٌ يَبْكِينَ، فَجَاءَ عُمَرُ وَمَعَهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ وَمَعَهُ الدِّرَّةُ، فَقَالَ: " يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللهِ ادْخُلْ عَلَى أُمِّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَأْمُرْهَا فَلْتَحْتَجِبْ، وَأَخْرِجْهُنَّ عَلَيَّ " قَالَ: فَجَعَلَ يُخْرِجُهُنَّ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَضْرِبُهُنَّ بِالدِّرَّةِ، فَسَقَطَ خِمَارُ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْهُنَّ فَقَالُوا: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ خِمَارُهَا، فَقَالَ: " دَعُوهَا وَلَا حُرْمَةَ لَهَا
Translation
✧ When Khalid b. al-Walid died, women gathered in the house of Maymunah weeping. Umar came with Ibn Abbas, and he had the whip. He said: "O Abu Abdullah, enter upon the Mother of the Believers and tell her to veil herself, and bring the women out to me." He said: He began bringing them out and he was striking them with the whip. The head covering of one of the women fell, and they said: "O Commander of the Faithful, her head covering!" He said: "Leave her! There is no sanctity for her."
