✧ The prayer over the martyr and washing him

عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍ
وَكَانَ يُدْعَى فِي زَمَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ الْقَارِئَ، وَكَانَ لَقِيَ عَدُوًّا فَانْهَزَمَ مِنْهُمْ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: هَلْ لَكَ فِي الشَّامِ لَعَلَّ اللهَ يَمُنُّ عَلَيْكَ، قَالَ: لَا إِلَّا الَّذِينَ فَرَرْتُ مِنْهُمْ، قَالَ: فَخَطَبَهُمْ بِالْقَادِسِيَّةِ فَقَالَ: " إِنَّا لَاقُو الْعَدُوِّ إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ غَدًا، وَإِنَّا مُسْتَشْهَدُونَ، فَلَا تَغْسِلُوا عَنَّا دَمًا، وَلَا نُكَفَّنُ إِلَّا فِي ثَوْبٍ كَانَ عَلَيْنَا
Translation
✧ He was called ‘the reciter’ in the time of the Prophet ﷺ. He met an enemy and fled from them. 'Umar said to him: “Would you like to go to Syria? Perhaps Allah will grant you martyrdom.” He said: “No, except against those from whom I fled.” He said: Then he addressed them at al-Qadisiyya and said: “We will meet the enemy tomorrow, if Allah wills, and we will be martyred. Do not wash any blood from us, and do not shroud us except in the garment that was on us.”
