✧ The prayer over the martyr and washing him

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
سَأَلْنَا سُلَيْمَانَ بْنَ مُوسَى: كَيْفَ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى الشَّهِيدِ عِنْدَهُمْ ؟ فَقَالَ: " كَهَيْئَتِهَا عَلَى غَيْرِهِ " قَالَ: وَسَأَلْنَا عَنْ دَفْنِ الشَّهِيدِ فَقَالَ: " أَمَّا إِذَا كَانَ فِي الْمَعْرَكَةِ فَإِنَّا نَدْفِنُهُ كَمَا هُوَ وَلَا نُغَسِّلُهُ وَلَا نُكَفِّنُهُ وَلَا نُحَنِّطُهُ، وَأَمَّا إِذَا انْقَلَبْنَا بِهِ وَبِهِ رَمَقٌ فَإِنَّا نُغَسِّلُهُ وَنُكَفِّنُهُ وَنُحَنِّطُهُ، وَجَدْنَا النَّاسَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ، وَكَانَ عَلَيْهِ مَنْ مَضَى قَبْلَنَا مِنَ النَّاسِ
Translation
✧ We asked Sulayman b. Musa: How is the prayer over a martyr among them? He said: “The same form as over anyone else.” He said: And we asked about burying a martyr. He said: “If he is on the battlefield, we bury him as he is, without washing, shrouding, or perfuming him. But if we carry him away while he still has life in him, then we wash him, shroud him, and perfume him. We found the people upon that practice, and so did those of the people who passed before us.”
