✧ When the obligatory prayer and the funeral coincide

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ مَطَرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ قَالَ:
رَأَيْتُ الْحَسَنَ وَوُضِعَتْ جِنَازَةٌ عِنْدَ صَلَاةِ الْمَغْرِبِ، فَبَدَأَ فَصَلَّى عَلَى الْجِنَازَةِ، ثُمَّ صَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ، فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لِقَتَادَةَ فَقَالَ: " لَوْ كَانَ بَدَأَ بِالْمَكْتُوبَةِ
Translation
✧ I saw al-Hasan when a funeral was placed at Maghrib prayer time, and he began by praying over the funeral, then prayed Maghrib after that. I mentioned that to Qatadah, who said: “If only he had begun with the obligatory prayer.”
