✧ Delivering the Sermon While Standing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَ:
مَا جَلَسَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى مِنْبَرٍ حَتَّى مَاتَ، مَا كَانَ يَخْطُبُ إِلَّا قَائِمًا، فَكَمْ تُحِبُّونَ أَنْ يُحِسَّ النَّاسُ، نص إضافيإِنَّمَا كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ، نص إضافيوَأَبُو بَكْرٍ، نص إضافيوَعُمَرُ، نص إضافيوَعُثْمَانُ، يَرْتَقِي أَحَدُهُمْ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ، فَيَقُومُ هُوَ قَائِمًا، لَا يَجْلِسُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ حَتَّى يَرْتَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ، وَلَا يَجْلِسُ عَلَيْهِ بَعْدُ حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ، وَإِنَّمَا خُطْبَتُهُ جَمِيعًا وَهُوَ قَائِمٌ، وَإِنَّمَا كَانُوا يَتَشَهَّدُونَ مَرَّةً وَاحِدَةً الْأُولَى، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ مِنْبَرٌ إِلَّا مِنْبَرُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ حَتَّى قَدِمَ نص إضافيمُعَاوِيَةُ إِذْ حَجَّ بِمِنْبَرِهِ فَتَرَكَهُ، فَلَمْ يَزَالُوا يَخْطُبُونَ عَلَى الْمَنَابِرِ
Translation
✧ The Prophet ﷺ never sat on a pulpit until he died; he only delivered the sermon standing. How much you would like people to feel it. The Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr, Umar, and Uthman—when one of them ascended the pulpit, he stood upright; he did not sit on the pulpit until he ascended it, nor did he sit on it afterward until he descended. His entire sermon was delivered standing. They would only recite the testimony of faith once at the beginning. There was no pulpit except the pulpit of the Prophet ﷺ until Mu'awiya came when he performed the pilgrimage with his pulpit and left it there, and they continued to deliver sermons from pulpits after that.
