Translation
✧ I was sitting with Ibn ʿUmar when a young man came to him and said, 'Will you not engage in jihād?' He remained silent and turned away from him. Then the man repeated, and he remained silent and turned away from him. Then he asked him again, and Ibn ʿUmar said, 'Islam is built upon four pillars: establishing the prayer, giving the zakāh—do not separate the two—fasting Ramaḍān, and pilgrimage to the House for whoever can find a way. Jihād and charity are part of good deeds.'
