✧ One Who Misses Part of the Night: When Does He Make It Up

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ يُونُسَ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ،
أَنَّ رَجُلًا رَأَى عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يُصَلِّي فِي حِينٍ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُصَلِّي فِيهِ مِنَ النَّهَارِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: فَقَالَ: " فَاتَنِي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ "، وَقَدْ قَالَ اللهُ: ﴿وَهُوَ الَّذِي جَعَلَ اللَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ خِلْفَةً لِمَنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَذَّكَّرَ أَوْ أَرَادَ شُكُورًا ﴾
Translation
✧ A man saw Umar b. al-Khattab praying at a time of day when he did not usually pray. He said to him: “I missed part of the night,” and God has said: “And it is He who made the night and day to alternate for one who desires to remember or desires to be thankful.”
