عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ،
أَنَّ أَبَا بَكْرٍ كَانَ يُوتِرُ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ، وَعُمَرُ آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ، فَسَأَلَهُمَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَنْ وِتْرِهِمَا فَأَخْبَرَاهُ ؟ فَقَالَ: قَوِيَ هَذَا، وَحَذِرَ هَذَا قَالَ: وَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " أَضْرِبُ لَكُمَا مَثَلَ رَجُلَيْنِ أَخَذَا فِي مَفَازَةٍ لَيْلًا "، فَقَالَ أَحَدُهُمَا: مَا أُرِيدُ أَنْ أَنَامَ حَتَّى أَقْطَعَهَا، وَقَالَ الْآخَرُ: أَنَامُ نَوْمَةً، ثُمَّ أَقُومُ فَأَقْطَعُهَا، فَأَصْبَحَا فِي الْمَنْزِلِ جَمِيعًا
Translation

machine translationʿAbd al-Razzāq, from Maʿmar, from al-Zuhrī,
✧ Abu Bakr used to perform witr at the beginning of the night, and Umar at the end of the night. The Prophet ﷺ asked them about their witr and they told him. He said: “This one is strong, and this one is cautious.” He said: And the Prophet ﷺ said: “I will strike for you two the example of two men who set out on a desert by night. One of them said: I do not want to sleep until I cross it. The other said: I will sleep a little, then get up and cross it. They both reached the destination together.”
