✧ Fasting While Traveling

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُيَيْنَةَ، عَنْ مِسْعَرٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ:
أَقْبَلْتُ مَعَ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ مِنْ يَنْبُعَ قَالَ: فَصَامَ عَلِيٌّ، وَكَانَ عَلِيٌّ رَاكِبًا، وَأَفْطَرْتُ لِأَنِّي كُنْتُ مَاشِيًا، حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا الْمَدِينَةَ لَيْلًا فَمَرَرْنَا بِدَارِ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَفَّانَ، فَإِذَا هُوَ يَقْرَأُ قَالَ: فَوَقَفَ عَلِيٌّ يَسْتَمِعُ قِرَاءَتَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ: " إِنَّهُ يَقْرَأُ وَهُوَ فِي سُورَةِ، أَوْ قَالَ: فِي سُورَةِ النَّحْلِ
Translation
✧ I returned with Ali b. Abi Talib from Yanbu. He said: Ali fasted, and Ali was riding, while I broke the fast because I was walking, until we arrived in Madinah at night. We passed by the house of Uthman b. Affan, and he was reciting. He said: Ali stopped to listen to his recitation, then Ali said: "He is reciting while in a surah," or he said: "in Surat al-Nahl."
