✧ When does a traveler shorten the prayer when he sets out on a journey

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي ابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ،
أَنَّهُ صَلَّى مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِالْمَدِينَةِ الظُّهْرَ أَرْبَعًا، وَصَلَّيْتُ مَعَهُ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ الْعَصْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ، وَالنَّبِيُّ ﷺ يُرِيدُ مَكَّةَ
Translation
✧ He prayed with the Prophet ﷺ in Madinah the noon prayer four [rakʿahs], and I prayed with him at Dhu al-Hulayfah the afternoon prayer two [rakʿahs], while the Prophet ﷺ was intending Makkah.
