✧ When does a traveler shorten the prayer when he sets out on a journey

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ، عَنْ دَاوُدَ، عَنْ أَبِي حَرْبِ بْنِ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ الدِّيلِيِّ،
أَنَّ عَلِيًّا لَمَّا خَرَجَ إِلَى الْبَصْرَةِ رَأَى خُصًّا فَقَالَ: " لَوْلَا هَذَا الْخُصُّ لَصَلَّيْنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ. فَقُلْتُ: مَا خُصًّا ؟ قَالَ: " بَيْتٌ مِنْ قَصَبٍ
Translation
✧ When Ali went out to Basra, he saw a reed hut and said: "Were it not for this hut, we would have prayed two rakʿahs." I said, "What is a reed hut?" He said, "A house of reeds."
