✧ The imamate of a slave

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ أَبِي مُلَيْكَةَ،
أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا يَأْتُونَ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ بِأَعْلَى الْوَادِي هُوَ وَأَبُوهُ، وَعُبَيْدُ بْنُ عُمَيْرٍ، وَالْمِسْوَرُ بْنُ مَخْرَمَةَ، وَنَاسٌ كَثِيرٌ، فَيَؤُمُّهُمْ أَبُو عُمَرَ مَوْلَى عَائِشَةَ، وَأَبُو عَمْرٍو غُلَامُهَا لَمْ يَعْتِقْ، فَكَانَ إِمَامَ أَهْلِهَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَعُرْوَةُ، وَأَهْلُهُمَا، إِلَّا عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ كَانَ يَسْتَأْخِرُ عَنْهُ أَبُو عَمْرٍو قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: إِذَا غَيَّبَنِي أَبُو عَمْرٍو وَدَلَّانِي فِي حُفْرَتِي فَهُوَ حُرٌّ
Translation
✧ They used to come to ʿĀʾishah, Mother of the Believers, in the upper part of the valley—he and his father, and ʿUbayd b. ʿUmayr, and al-Miswar b. Makhramah, and many people. Abū ʿUmar, the freedman of ʿĀʾishah, would lead them in prayer, and Abū ʿAmr, her slave who had not been manumitted. The imam of her household was Muḥammad b. Abī Bakr, and ʿUrwah, and their households, except that ʿAbd Allāh b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Bakr would hold back from him. Abū ʿAmr said: ʿĀʾishah said: "When Abū ʿAmr lowers me into my grave and lets me down, he is free."
