عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ قَالَ:
لَقِيَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ رَكْبًا يُرِيدُونَ الْبَيْتَ، فَقَالَ: " مَنْ أَنْتُمْ ؟ " فَأَجَابَهُمْ أَحْدَثُهُمْ سِنًّا، فَقَالَ: عِبَادُ اللهِ الْمُسْلِمُونَ قَالَ: " مِنْ أَيْنَ جِئْتُمْ ؟ " قَالَ: مِنَ الْفَجِّ الْعَمِيقِ قَالَ: " أَيْنَ تُرِيدُونَ ؟ " قَالَ: الْبَيْتَ الْعَتِيقَ، قَالَ عُمَرُ: " تَأَوَّلَهَا لَعَمْرُ اللهِ "، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " مَنْ أَمِيرُكُمْ ؟ " فَأَشَارَ إِلَى شَيْخٍ مِنْهُمْ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: " بَلْ أَنْتَ أَمِيرُهُمْ "، لِأَحْدَثِهِمْ سِنًّا الَّذِي أَجَابَهُ بِجَيِّدٍ
Translation
✧ Umar b. al-Khattab met a group of riders heading for the House. He asked, "Who are you?" The youngest of them answered, "Servants of God, the Muslims." He asked, "Where have you come from?" He said, "From the deep mountain pass." He asked, "Where are you heading?" He said, "To the Ancient House." Umar said, "By God, he interpreted it well." Then Umar asked, "Who is your leader?" They pointed to an elder among them. Umar said, "Rather, you are their leader," referring to the youngest one who had answered him well.
