✧ Fat of a Dead Animal

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَطَاءٌ قَالَ:
ذَكَرُوا أَنَّهُ يُسْتَثْقَبُ بِشُحُومِ الْمَيْتَةِ، وَيُدَّهَنُ بِهَا السُّفُنُ، وَلَا يُمَسُّ قَالَ: يُؤْخَذُ بِعُودٍ قُلْتُ: أَيُدَّهَنُ بِهَا غَيْرُ السُّفُنِ، أَدِيمٌ أَوْ شَيْءٌ يُمَسُّ ؟ قَالَ: لَمْ أَعْلَمْ قُلْتُ: وَأَيْنَ يُدَّهَنُ مِنَ السُّفُنِ ؟ قَالَ: ظُهُورُهَا وَلَا يُدَّهَنُ بُطُونُهَا قُلْتُ: وَلَا بُدَّ أَنْ يَمَسَّ وَدَكَهَا بِيَدِهِ فِي الْمِصْبَاحِ ؟ قَالَ: فَلْيَغْسِلْ يَدَهُ إِذَا مَسَّهُ
Translation
✧ They mentioned that the fats of dead animals are used for lamps, and ships are greased with them, but they should not be touched. He said: "It is taken with a stick." I said: "Should things other than ships be greased with it, such as leather or something that is touched?" He said: "I do not know." I said: "Which part of ships is greased?" He said: "Their exteriors, but their interiors are not greased." I said: "But he must touch its fat with his hand when putting it in the lamp?" He said: "Then let him wash his hand if he touches it."
