✧ Hides of Dead Animals When Tanned

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ:
قُلْتُ لِعَطَاءٍ: أَرَأَيْتَ لَوِ اضْطُرِرْتُ فِي سَفَرٍ إِلَى مَاءٍ فِي ظَرْفِ مَيْتَةٍ لَمْ يُدْبَغْ، أَوْ إِلَى مَاءٍ فِيهِ فَأْرَةٌ مَيْتَةٌ لَيْسَ مَعِي مَاءٌ غَيْرُهُ فَهُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيْكَ أَنْ تَطَّهَّرَ بِهِ أَمِ التُّرَابُ ؟ قَالَ: بَلْ هُوَ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنَ التُّرَابِ قُلْتُ: فَنَدَعُهُ فِي الْقَرَارِ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ قُلْتُ: فَتَوَضَّأْتُ بِهِ فِي الْقَرَارِ وَلَا أَدْرِي، ثُمَّ صَلَّيْتُ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ، ثُمَّ عَلِمْتُ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَفُوتَنِي تِلْكَ الصَّلَاةُ، قَالَ: فَعُدْ فَتَوَضَّأْ ثُمَّ عُدْ لِصَلَاتِكَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: فَعَلِمْتُ بَعْدَمَا فَاتَنِي، قَالَ: فَلَا تُعِدْ
Translation
✧ I said to ʿAṭāʾ: What if I am compelled during travel to use water in a container made from an untanned dead animal's skin, or water containing a dead mouse, and I have no other water — would you prefer that I purify myself with that water or with earth? He said: It is more preferable to me than earth. I said: Should we leave it in the depression? He said: Yes. I said: Suppose I performed ablution with it in the depression without knowing, then prayed the prescribed prayer, and then learned before that prayer time expired? He said: Repeat the ablution and repeat the prayer. I said: What if I learned after the time had passed? He said: Do not repeat it.
