✧ The beginning of the call to prayer

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ، قَالَ عَطَاءٌ: سَمِعْتُ عُبَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَيْرٍ يَقُولُ:
ايتَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابُهُ كَيْفَ يَجْعَلُونَ شَيْئًا إِذَا أَرَادُوا جَمْعَ الصَّلَاةِ اجْتَمَعُوا لَهَا فَائْتَمَرُوا بِالنَّاقُوسِ قَالَ: فَبَيْنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَشْتَرِيَ خَشَبَتَيْنِ لِلنَّاقُوسِ، إِذْ رَأَى فِي الْمَنَامِ أَنْ لَا تَجْعَلُوا النَّاقُوسَ، بَلْ أَذِّنُوا بِالصَّلَاةِ قَالَ: فَذَهَبَ عُمَرُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ لِيُخْبِرَهُ بِالَّذِي رَأَى، وَقَدْ جَاءَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ الْوَحْيُ بِذَلِكَ، فَمَا رَاعَ عُمَرَ، إِلَّا بِلَالٌ يُؤَذِّنُ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: قَدْ سَبَقَكَ بِذَلِكَ الْوَحْيُ، حِينَ أَخْبَرَهُ بِذَلِكَ عُمَرُ
Translation
✧ The Prophet ﷺ and his companions deliberated how they could make something by which, when they wanted to gather for prayer, they would assemble for it. They deliberated about a bell. He said: While 'Umar b. al-Khattab was about to buy two pieces of wood for the bell, he saw in a dream: Do not make a bell; rather, call to prayer with the adhan. He said: 'Umar went to the Prophet ﷺ to inform him of what he had seen, and the revelation had already come to the Prophet ﷺ about that. Nothing startled 'Umar except Bilal giving the call to prayer, and the Prophet ﷺ said: The revelation has preceded you in that, when 'Umar informed him of it.
