Translation

✧ "Establish prayer at the two ends of the day" until the end of the verse. He said: "The first prayer the Messenger of God ﷺ prayed was the Zuhr. Gabriel came to him and said: '"Verily, we stand in rows, and verily, we are the ones who glorify.' He said: 'Gabriel stood in front of the Messenger of God ﷺ, with the Prophet ﷺ behind him, then the people behind the Messenger of God ﷺ, and the women behind the men.' He said: 'He led them in the Zuhr prayer—that is, four rak'ahs. When it was time for 'Asr, Gabriel stood and did the same. Then Gabriel came when the sun had set and led them in three rak'ahs, reciting aloud in the first two rak'ahs, and not being heard in the third.' Al-Hasan said: 'This is the odd-numbered prayer of the day.' He said: 'When it was time for 'Isha', and the twilight had disappeared and darkness had set in, Gabriel came to him and stood before him and led the people in four rak'ahs, reciting aloud in the two rak'ahs. When morning came the next night, he led him and the people with him in a manner similar to what he had done: he led them in two rak'ahs, reciting in them and prolonging the recitation. The Prophet ﷺ did not die until he had defined for the people their prayers.' Then al-Hasan mentioned the Friday prayer. He said: 'He led them in two rak'ahs and removed two rak'ahs from them because of the gathering of the people on that day and for the sermon.' God said: 'Establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in some watches of the night; indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds—that is a reminder for those who remember.' And he mentioned the two ends of the day as being from the morning prayer to the Fajr prayer, and 'in some watches of the night' as the Maghrib and 'Isha' prayers.
