✧ What suffices a man of clothing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ قَالَ:
رَآنِي ابْنُ عُمَرَ أُصَلِّي فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ فَقَالَ: أَلَمْ أَكْسُكَ ثَوْبَيْنِ ؟ فَقُلْتُ: بَلَى. قَالَ: أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ أَرْسَلْتُكَ إِلَى فُلَانٍ أَكُنْتَ ذَاهِبًا فِي هَذَا الثَّوْبِ ؟ فَقُلْتُ: لَا، فَقَالَ: اللهُ أَحَقُّ مَنْ تَزَّيَّنَ لَهُ - أَوْ: مَنْ تَزَيَّنْتَ لَهُ
Translation
✧ Ibn ʿUmar saw me praying in a single garment and said: Did I not clothe you with two garments? I said: Yes. He said: Do you think that if I sent you to so-and-so you would go in this garment? I said: No. He said: God is more deserving that you adorn yourself for Him—or: that you adorn yourself for Him.
