✧ What suffices a man of clothing

عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ قَالَ:
قَامَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَيُصَلِّي الرَّجُلُ فِي الثَّوْبِ الْوَاحِدِ ؟ قَالَ: أَوَ كُلُّكُمْ تَجِدُونَ ثَوْبَيْنِ ؟ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي زَمَنِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ قَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: أُصَلِّي الْعَصْرَ فِي ثَوْبٍ وَاحِدٍ ؟ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: إِذَا وَسَّعَ اللهُ عَلَيْكُمْ فَوَسِّعُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ، جَمَعَ الرَّجُلُ عَلَيْهِ ثِيَابَهُ يُصَلِّي الرَّجُلُ فِي إِزَارٍ وَرِدَاءٍ، فِي قَمِيصٍ وَإِزَارٍ، فِي إِزَارٍ وَقَبَاءٍ، فِي سَرَاوِيلَ وَقَبَاءٍ......قَالَ: وَأَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ: فِي تُبَّانٍ وَرِدَاءٍ، فِي تُبَّانٍ وَقَمِيصٍ، فِي تُبَّانٍ وَقَبَاءٍ
Translation
✧ A man stood up to the Prophet ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, may a man pray in a single garment? He said: Does every one of you find two garments? Then, when it was in the time of ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb, a man stood up to him and said: Should I pray ʿaṣr in a single garment? ʿUmar said: When God grants you abundance, then be generous to yourselves. A man gathers his garments upon himself; he may pray in a waist-wrapper and a cloak, in a shirt and a waist-wrapper, in a waist-wrapper and an outer garment with sleeves, in trousers and an outer garment with sleeves... He said: And I think he said: in short trousers and a cloak, in short trousers and a shirt, in short trousers and an outer garment with sleeves.
