Notes

machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: This ḥadīth is good and sound (ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ). Ibn Lahīʿah narrated this ḥadīth from Ḥabbān b. Wāsiʿ, from his father, from ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd, that the Prophet ﷺ performed ablution and wiped his head with water left over from his hands. The narration of ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith from Ḥabbān is more sound (aṣaḥḥ), because this ḥadīth has been narrated through more than one route from ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd and others, that the Prophet ﷺ took fresh water for his head. The practice is according to this among most of the people of knowledge; they held that one should take fresh water for his head.
