Notes
machine translationAbū Bakr Muḥammad b. Abān narrated to us: ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Mahdī narrated to us, from Abū ʿAwānah, with this chain of narration, similar to it. Abū ʿĪsā said: Hushaym narrated this hadith from Abū Bishr, from Ḥabīb b. Sālim, from al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr, and Hushaym did not mention in it "from Bashīr b. Thābit". The hadith of Abū ʿAwānah is more sound (aṣaḥḥ) in our view, because Yazīd b. Hārūn narrated from Shuʿbah, from Abū Bishr, similar to the narration of Abū ʿAwānah.

machine translationIt was narrated from Aḥmad b. Yūnus, from Abū ʿAwānah, all of them from Abū Bishr Jaʿfar b. Abī Waḥshiyyah, from Ḥabīb b. Sālim, from al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr. And Musaddad narrated from Abū ʿAwānah, from Abū Bishr, from Bashīr b. Thābit, from Ḥabīb b. Sālim, from al-Nuʿmān, from the Prophet ﷺ. The hadith of Bashīr b. Thābit is more sound (aṣaḥḥ).

machine translationRaqabah corroborated him, from Abū Bishr, and that is a sound (ṣaḥīḥ) chain of narration. But Shuʿbah and Abū ʿAwānah contradicted the two of them and said: from Abū Bishr, from Bashīr b. Thābit, from Ḥabīb b. Sālim.

machine translationThe hadith of Abū ʿAwānah is more sound (aṣaḥḥ) than the hadith of Hushaym, because Yazīd b. Hārūn narrated from Shuʿbah, from Abū Bishr, something like the narration of Abū ʿAwānah.
machine translationYazīd said: I said to him, "Hushaym says 'on the third night.'" So Shuʿbah doubted and said, "the fourth or the third."
in جامع الترمذي, p. 169 - Ishbīlī
machine translationAbū Muḥammad al-Ishbīlī declared the hadith of Abū ʿAwānah sound (ṣaḥḥaḥa) in his al-Aḥkām al-Kubrā.
in جامع الترمذي, p. 169 - Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal
machine translationShuʿbah ruminates, refuting Hushaym. I asked Aḥmad, "Who made the mistake in the hadith?" He said, "Shuʿbah, when he says 'the fourth night.'" Aḥmad also said, as mentioned by al-Khallāl in his 'Ilal, "Shuʿbah was shaken by it."

machine translationThe hadith of Bashīr b. Thābit is more sound (aṣaḥḥ).
in جامع الترمذي, p. 169 - Maghlaṭay
machine translationIbn Abī Ḥātim said in his ʿIlal: Abū Zurʿah was well guided in what he said, and he ruled in favour of Musaddad regarding what came from Abū ʿAwānah, with the addition of a man in the chain. Some claimed that this contradicts what Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned in another place: I heard my father, and he mentioned a hadith: al-Muqaddamī narrated to us, from Yaḥyā b. Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān, Sufyān narrated to us, from Abū Yaʿfūr, from his father, from al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr, that he used to pray the Maghrib with the Prophet ﷺ, then he would wait only a short while until he prayed the ʿIshāʾ. He said to me: al-Muqaddamī made a mistake in it; the Prophet ﷺ is not in it; rather it is "we used to pray with al-Nuʿmān b. Bashīr." And God knows best.
