That a man from his people hunted a rabbit or two and slaughtered them with Marwah. Then he hung them up until he met the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so he asked him about that, and he ﷺ told him to eat them.

machine translationHe said: And on this topic there are narrations from Muḥammad b. Ṣafwān, Rāfiʿ and ʿAdī b. Ḥātim. Abū ʿĪsā said: Some of the people of knowledge have permitted slaughtering with a sharp stone (marwah), and they saw no harm in eating the rabbit, and this is the view of most of the people of knowledge. Some of them disliked eating the rabbit. The students of al-Shaʿbī differed in narrating this hadith. Dāwūd b. Abī Hind narrated from al-Shaʿbī from Muḥammad b. Ṣafwān. ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal narrated from al-Shaʿbī from Ṣafwān b. Muḥammad or Muḥammad b. Ṣafwān, and Muḥammad b. Ṣafwān is more correct (aṣaḥḥ). Jābir al-Juʿfī narrated from al-Shaʿbī from Jābir b. ʿAbdullāh something like the hadith of Qatādah from al-Shaʿbī, and it is possible that al-Shaʿbī's narration was from both of them. Muḥammad said: The hadith of al-Shaʿbī from Jābir is not preserved (ghayr maḥfūẓ).
