حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا جُحَيْفَةَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ قَالَ:

ذَبَحَ أَبُو بُرْدَةَ قَبْلَ الصَّلَاةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " أَبْدِلْهَا "، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَيْسَ عِنْدِي إِلَّا جَذَعَةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ مُسِنَّةٍ ! قَالَ: اجْعَلْهَا مَكَانَهَا، وَلَنْ تَجْزِيَ - أَوْ تُوفِيَ - عَنْ أَحَدٍ بَعْدَكَ

Translation

✧ Abu Burdah slaughtered before the prayer, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him: 'Replace it.' He said: O Messenger of Allah, I have nothing but a jadha'ah that is better than a musinnah! He said: 'Put it in its place, and it will never suffice—or fulfill—for anyone after you.'
