حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ، قَالَ:
شَهِدْتُ جَرِيرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْبَجَلِيَّ لَمَّا هَلَكَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ فَسَمِعْتُ جَرِيرًا يَخْطُبُ، فَقَالَ: اشْفَعُوا لِأَمِيرِكُمْ فَإِنَّهُ كَانَ يُحِبُّ الْعَافِيَةَ، وَاسْمَعُوا وَأَطِيعُوا حَتَّى يَأْتِيَكُمْ أَمِيرٌ، أَمَّا بَعْدُ؛ فَإِنِّي بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، وَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَيَّ النُّصْحَ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ، وَرَبِّ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ إِنِّي لَكُمْ لَنَاصِحٌ
Translation

✧ I witnessed Jarir b. 'Abdullah al-Bajali when al-Mughira b. Shu'ba died, and I heard Jarir delivering a sermon. He said: Intercede for your governor, for he loved well-being. Listen and obey until a governor comes to you. Now then, I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God ﷺ upon Islam, and he stipulated to me sincere counsel for every Muslim. By the Lord of this mosque, I am indeed a sincere counselor to you.
