حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ مُرَّةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى، عَنْ مُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ
أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ فَصَلَّى سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا نَحْوَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ، ثُمَّ نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ قَدْ نَرَى تَقَلُّبَ وَجْهِكَ فِي السَّمَاءِ إِلَى آخِرِ الْآيَةِ، قَالَ: فَوَجَّهَهُ اللهُ إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ
Translation

✧ That the Prophet ﷺ came to Madinah and prayed facing Jerusalem for seventeen months, then this verse was revealed to him: "We have certainly seen the turning of your face toward the heaven..." to the end of the verse. He said: So Allah turned him toward the Kaaba.
