✧ O Commander of the Believers, we have come to ask you about three matters: what is lawful for a man from his wife while she is menstruating; about the ghusl from janaba; and about reciting the Qur'an in houses? 'Umar said: 'Glory be to God! Are you sorcerers? You have asked me about something I asked the Messenger of God ﷺ about, which no one has asked me about since.' He said: 'As for what is lawful for a man from his wife while she is menstruating, it is what is above the waist wrapper. As for the ghusl from janaba, he should wash his hand and his private part, then perform wudu, and pour water over his head and body. As for reciting the Qur'an, it is light, so whoever wishes may illuminate his house.'
