✧ When Abu Dharr came to Uthman from Syria, he said: 'O Commander of the Believers, do you think that I am of a people—by God, I am not of them and shall not reach them—who recite the Quran but it does not pass their collarbones, who pass through Islam as an arrow passes through the game and do not return to it until the arrow returns to its notch? Their mark is the shaving of heads. By God, if you ordered me to stand, I would not sit as long as my legs could support me, and if you bound me with the two handles of a saddle, I would not loosen it until you are the one who loosens me.'
