✧ Prices of animals rose, so we came to al-Kufah to bring animals from it. I entered the mosque, and there was a man, a tall man of fine teeth, known to be from the men of the Hijaz, and people craning their necks toward him. He said: Do not rush me, I will tell you. We had only recently been in ignorance, so when Islam came, I found a matter the like of which I had never seen before. God granted me understanding in the Quran, and the people used to ask the Messenger of God ﷺ about good, while I asked him about evil. I said: O Messenger of God, is there after this good any evil, as there was evil before it? He said: Yes. I said: What is the protection, O Messenger of God? He said: The sword. I said: Does the sword have any remainder? What comes after it? He said: There will be a truce upon corruption. He said: I said: What comes after the truce? He said: Callers of misguidance. If you see then a caliph of God, Mighty and Majestic, on earth, then cling to him, even if he strikes your back and takes your wealth. And if you do not see a caliph, then flee until death overtakes you while you are biting onto the stump of a tree. I said: O Messenger of God, what comes after that? He said: The Dajjal.
