حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، وَسَمِعَ أَبَا وَائِلٍ، يُحَدِّثُ
أَنَّ رَجُلًا جَاءَ إِلَى ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، فَقَالَ: قَرَأْتُ الْمُفَصَّلَ اللَّيْلَةَ فِي رَكْعَةٍ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ: هَذًّا كَهَذِّ الشِّعْرِ ! لَقَدْ عَرَفْتُ السُّوَرَ النَّظَائِرَ الَّتِي كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقْرُنُ بَيْنَهُنَّ، فَذَكَرَ عِشْرِينَ سُورَةً مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ ; سُورَتَيْنِ سُورَتَيْنِ فِي رَكْعَةٍ

✧ A man came to Ibn Mas'ud and said: I recited the Mufassal tonight in one rak'ah. 'Abdullah said: Babbling like the babbling of poetry! I knew the pairs of surahs that the Messenger of God ﷺ used to combine. He mentioned twenty surahs from the Mufassal, two surahs in each rak'ah.
