✧ He said: Indeed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given concise speech. He would teach us what to say in prayer when we sit in it: “Greetings to Allah, and prayers and good things. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah.” Then he would ask for whatever came to mind after that and would desire His mercy and forgiveness with a few brief phrases, not prolonging the sitting. And he would say: I love that the request you make to Allah, when one of you sits in prayer and finishes the greeting, should be to say after that: Glory be to You, there is no god but You. Forgive my sin and set right my deeds; indeed You forgive sins to whom You will, and You are the Forgiving, the Merciful. O Forgiver, forgive me; O Accepter of repentance, accept my repentance; O Merciful, have mercy on me; O Pardoner, pardon me; O Kind, be kind to me. O Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your blessing which You have bestowed upon me, and grant me excellence in worshiping You. O Lord, I ask You for all good, and I seek refuge in You from all evil. O Lord, open for me with good and seal for me with good, and grant me a longing to meet You without harmful distress or misleading trial. Protect me from evil deeds, and whoever You protect from evil deeds, You have shown him mercy, and that is the great triumph. Then whatever supplication you make should be in humility and sincerity, for He loves His servant's humble entreaty to Him.
