حَدَّثَنَا أَسْلَمُ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الْوَاسِطِيُّ أنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ الْبُرْجُلَانِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ
كُنَّا نَقُولُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ السَّلَامُ عَلَى فُلَانٍ فَنُسَمِّي مَنْ عَلِمْنَا مِنْ عِلْمِنَا مِنَ الْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالْأَنْبِيَاءِ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ» ثُمَّ عَلَّمَنَا التَّشَهُّدَ فَكُنَّا نَتَعَلَّمُهُ كَمَا يَتَعَلَّمُ أَحَدٌ مِنَّا السُّورَةَ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ

✧ We used to say in the prayer, 'Peace be upon so-and-so; peace be upon so-and-so,' naming those from the angels and prophets whom we knew. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, 'Indeed, Allah is as-Salam.' Then he taught us the tashahhud, and we used to learn it as one of us would learn a surah from the Qur'an. He said: 'Say: At-tahiyyatu lillahi was-salawatu wat-tayyibatu; as-salamu 'alayka ayyuhan-nabiyyu wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu; as-salamu 'alayna wa 'ala 'ibadillahis-salihin. Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan 'abduhu wa rasuluhu.'
