حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ثنا مُحِلُّ بْنُ مُحْرِزٍ الضَّبِّيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ شَقِيقَ بْنَ سَلَمَةَ يَذْكُرُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ
كَانُوا يُصَلُّونَ خَلْفَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ قَائِلٌ مِنْهُمُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ فَقَالَ مَنِ الْقَائِلُ السَّلَامُ عَلَى اللهِ؟ إِنَّ اللهَ هُوَ السَّلَامُ وَلَكِنْ قُولُوا التَّحِيَّاتُ لِلَّهِ وَالصَّلَوَاتُ وَالطَّيِّبَاتُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ أَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى عِبَادِ اللهِ الصَّالِحِينَ أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ
Translation

✧ They used to pray behind the Prophet ﷺ. One of them said: 'Peace be upon God.' He said: 'Who said "Peace be upon God"? Indeed God is al-Salām (the Source of Peace), but say: "Greetings, prayers, and good things are due to God. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of God and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of God. I bear witness that there is no god but God, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."'
