حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ عَنْ عَمْرٍو ثنا زُهَيْرٌ ثنا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ عنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ وَعَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَاهُ فَقَالَ قَرَأْتُ الْمُفَصَّلَ فِي رَكْعَةٍ فَقَالَ
عَبْدُ اللهِ بَلْ هَذَذْتَ كَهَذِّ الشِّعْرِ وَكَنَثْرِ الدَّقَلِ وَلَكِنْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَقْرَأُ النَّظَائِرَ فِي رَكْعَةٍ فَذَكَرَ عَشْرَ رَكَعَاتٍ بِعِشْرِينَ سُورَةٍ عَنْ تَأْلِيفِ عَبْدِ اللهِ آخِرُهُنَّ إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ وَالدُّخَانُ

✧ ʿAbdullah: “Rather, you have recited quickly, like the recitation of poetry and the scattering of bad dates. But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite pairs of similar surahs in one rakʿah.” Then he mentioned ten rakʿahs with twenty surahs, according to the arrangement of ʿAbdullah, the last of them being “When the sun is wrapped up [in darkness]” (al-Takwir) and al-Dukhan.
