حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ التُّسْتَرِيُّ ثنا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ثنا مُجَالِدٌ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ قَالَ
أُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَجِئْنَا نَمْشِي مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ فَلَمَّا رَكَعَ النَّاسُ رَكَعَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَرَكَعْنَا مَعَهُ وَنَحْنُ نَمْشِي فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ وَهُوَ رَاكِعٌ صَدَقَ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ سَأَلَهُ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ لِمَ قُلْتَ حِينَ سَلَّمَ عَلَيْكَ الرَّجُلُ صَدَقَ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ؟ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ إِذَا كَانَتِ التَّحِيَّةُ عَلَى الْمَعْرِفَةِ»

✧ The prayer was commenced in the mosque, and we came walking with ʿAbd Allah. When the people bowed, ʿAbd Allah bowed and we bowed with him while we were walking. A man passed in front of him and said: “Peace be upon you, O Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān.” ʿAbd Allah said while bowing: “Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth.” When he finished, some of the people asked him: “Why did you say, when the man greeted you, ‘Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth’?” He replied: “I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Among the signs of the Hour are when greeting is upon acquaintance.’”
