حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ حَمَّادٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ لِسَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ «§تُوتِرُ بِوَاحِدَةٍ؟» فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ أَوَلَيْسَ إِنَّمَا الْوِتْرُ وَاحِدَةٌ؟ قَالَ
عَبْدُ اللهِ «بَلَى وَلَكِنْ ثَلَاثٌ أَفْضَلُ» فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ فَإِنِّي لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَيْهَا فَغَضِبَ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَقَالَ سَعْدٌ «أَتَغْضَبُ عَلَيَّ أَنْ أُوتِرَ بِرَكْعَةٍ وَأَنْتَ تُوَرِّثُ ثَلَاثَ جَدَّاتٍ أَفَلَا تُوَرِّثُ لِحَوَّاءَ امْرَأَةِ آدَمَ؟» أَخْبَرَنِيهِ يَحْيَى عَنِ الثَّوْرِيِّ

✧ Abdullah replied, "Yes, but three are better." Saad then said, "I can't add anything more to it." This made Abdullah angry, and Saad said, "Are you angry with me for praying one additional unit of prayer while you inherit three grandmothers? Won't you also leave a share for Hawwa, the wife of Adam?" Yahya informed me about this from Thawri.
