حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْقَتَّاتُ ثنا مِنْجَابُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ثنا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ عَنْ أَبِي الْعُبَيْدَيْنِ الْعَامِرِيِّ وَكَانَ ضَرِيرَ الْبَصَرِ وَكَانَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْعُودٍ يَدِينُهُ فَقَالَ
لِعَبْدِ اللهِ مَنْ نَسْأَلُ إِنْ لَمْ نَسْأَلْكَ؟ فَرَقَّ لَهُ عَبْدُ اللهِ فَقَالَ مَا الْأَوَّاهُ؟ قَالَ «الرَّحِيمُ» قَالَ فَمَا الْأُمَّةُ؟ قَالَ «الَّذِي يَعْلَمُ الْخَيْرَ» قَالَ فَمَا الْقَانِتُ؟ قَالَ «الْمُطِيعُ» قَالَ فَمَا الْمَاعُونُ؟ قَالَ «مَا يَتَعَاوَنُ النَّاسُ بَيْنَهُمْ» قَالَ فَمَا التَّبْذِيرُ؟ قَالَ «إِنْفَاقُ الْمَالِ فِي غَيْرِ حَقِّهِ»

✧ To ʿAbdullah: "Whom should we ask if we do not ask you?" So ʿAbdullah felt compassion for him and said: "What is al-awwāh?" He said: "The merciful." He said: "What is al-ummah?" He said: "The one who knows good." He said: "What is al-qānit?" He said: "The obedient." He said: "What is al-māʿūn?" He said: "What people share among themselves." He said: "What is al-tabdhīr?" He said: "Spending wealth in something other than its rightful due."
