حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّزَّاقِ عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنِ الْقَاسِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ شُكِيَ إِلَى ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ الْفُرَاتَ فَقَالُوا إِنَّا نَخَافُ
أَنْ يَنْبَثِقَ عَلَيْنَا فَلَوْ أَرْسَلْتَ إِلَيْهِ مَنْ يُسَكِّرُهُ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ «لَا نُسَكِّرُهُ فَوَاللهِ لَيَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ زَمَانٌ لَوِ الْتَمَسُوا فِيهِ عَلَى طَسْتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ مَا وَجَدْتُمُوهُ لَيَرْجِعَنَّ كُلُّ مَاءٍ إِلَى عُنْصُرِهِ وَيَكُونُ فِيهِ الْمَاءُ وَالْمُسْلِمُونَ بِالشَّامِ»

✧ that it would burst upon us, so if you sent someone to dam it... ʿAbd Allah said: 'We will not dam it. By Allah, a time will come upon people when, if they sought a basin of water, you would not find it. Every water will return to its source, and the water and the Muslims will be in Syria.'
