حَدَّثَنَا الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو ثنا زَائِدَةُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ مُسْلِمٍ الْبَطِينِ عَنْ عَدَسَةَ الطَّائِيِّ قَالَ

كُنْتُ بِشِرَافَ فَنَزَلَ بِنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ فَبَعَثَنِي إِلَيْهِ أَهْلِي بِأَشْيَاءَ وَجَاءَ غِلْمَةٌ لَنَا كَانُوا فِي الْإِبِلِ مِنْ مَسِيرَةِ أَرْبَعٍ بِطَيْرٍ فَذَهَبْتُ بِهِ إِلَيْهِ فَلَمَّا ذَهَبْتُ بِهِ إِلَيْهِ سَأَلَنِي «مِنْ أَيْنَ جِئْتَنِي بِهَذَا الطَّيْرِ؟» قَالَ قُلْتُ جَاءَ بِهِ غِلْمَانٌ لَنَا كَانُوا فِي الْإِبِلِ مِنْ مَسِيرَةِ أَرْبَعِ لَيَالٍ فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ «لَوَدِدْتُ أَنِّي حَيْثُ صِيدَ لَا أُكَلِّمُ بِشَيْءٍ بَشَرًا وَلَا يُكَلِّمُنِي حَتَّى أَلْحَقَ بِاللهِ»

✧ I was at Shuraf, and ʿAbd Allah stopped with us. My family sent me to him with some things, and some slave boys of ours who were with the camels came from a journey of four nights with a bird. I took it to him. When I took it to him, he asked me, “From where did you bring me this bird?” I said, “Some slave boys of ours who were with the camels brought it from a journey of four nights.” ʿAbd Allah said, “I wish that I were where it was hunted, not speaking to any human about anything, and no one speaking to me until I meet Allah.”
