حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَبَّادٍ الْخَطَّابِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ لُوَيْنٌ ثنا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْكَبِيرِ الْغِفَارِيِّ قَالَ حَدَّثَتْنِي عُدَيْسَةُ بِنْتُ أُهْبَانَ بْنِ صَيْفِيٍّ
أَنَّ عَلِيًّا ؓ أَتَى أَبَاهَا فَقَامَ عَلَى الْبَابِ فَاسْتَأْذَنَ وَقَالَ يَا أَبَا مُسْلِمٍ مَا يَمْنَعُكَ أَنْ تَجِدَّ فِي هَذَا الْأَمْرِ وَتَأْخُذَ مِنْهُ بِنَصِيبِكَ؟ قَالَ يَمْنَعُنِي مِنْ ذَلِكَ عَهْدٌ عَهِدَهُ إِلَيَّ خَلِيلِي وَابْنُ عَمِّكَ ﷺ «أَمَرَنِي إِذَا وَقَعَتِ الْفِتْنَةُ أَنْ أَتَّخِذَ سَيْفًا مِنْ خَشَبٍ» فَهَا هُوَ ذَا عِنْدِي فَإِنْ شِئْتَ قَاتَلْتُ بِهِ

✧ That Ali ؓ came to her father, stood at the door, asked permission to enter, and said, 'O Abu Muslim, what prevents you from striving in this matter and taking your share of it?' He said, 'What prevents me from that is a covenant which my close friend and your cousin ﷺ made with me: "He commanded me that if tribulation occurs, I should take a sword of wood." Here it is with me, so if you wish, I will fight with it.'
