حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ قَالَ قَالَ

عَبْدُ اللهِ «لَيْسَ عَامٌ إِلَّا الَّذِي بَعْدَهُ شَرٌّ مِنْهُ وَلَا عَامٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عَامٍ وَلَا أُمَّةٌ خَيْرٌ مِنْ أُمَّةٍ وَلَكِنْ ذَهَابُ خِيَارِكُمْ وَعُلَمَائِكُمْ وَيُحَدِّثُ قَوْمٌ يَقِيسُونَ الْأُمُورَ بِرَأْيِهِمْ فَيَنْهَدِمُ الْإِسْلَامُ وَيَنْثَلِمُ»

✧ ʿAbd Allah (said): “There is no year but that the one after it is worse than it, and no year is better than another year, and no community is better than another community. Rather, it is the passing away of your best ones and your scholars, and people will come who judge matters by their own opinions, and Islam will be demolished and broken.”
