✧ 'O people, hold fast to truthfulness, for it brings near to righteousness, and righteousness brings near to Paradise. Beware of lying, for it brings near to wickedness, and wickedness brings near to the Fire. It is said of the truthful one: He was truthful and righteous, and of the liar: He lied and was wicked. Indeed, the angel has an inclination and the devil has an inclination. The angel's inclination is an admonition to good, and the devil's inclination is an admonition to evil. Whoever finds the angel's inclination, let him praise God, and whoever finds the devil's inclination, let him seek refuge from that, for God (may He be exalted) says: {Satan promises you poverty and commands you} until the end of the verse. He said: Indeed, God (may He be exalted) laughs at two men: a man who rises from his bed, his blanket, and his cover in a cold night, performs ablution, then stands for prayer. God says to His angels: What made My servant do what he did? They say: Our Lord, hope for what is with You and fear of what is with You. He says: I have given him what he hoped for and secured him from what he feared. And a man who was in a group, knew what he would gain from fleeing and knew what he would have with God, so he fought until he was killed. He says to the angels: What made My servant do what he did? They say: Our Lord, hope for what is with You and fear of what is with You. He says: I call you to witness that I have given him what he hoped for and secured him from what he feared — or a similar phrase.'
